Avatar in 3D
I finally saw Avatar last night. I'm not one to go to the movie theater often, but I'll make exceptions when I want to see what all the hype is about. I saw the XD version, which I guess is the next tier above 3D. But from what I'm told, there's a negligible difference between the two...the latter just might be even more obnoxiously loud. Anyway, I definitely recommend seeing Avatar in the theaters if you haven't yet seen a 3D movie like this before. The 3D special effects took a while to get used to, but it becomes more subtle as the movie progresses. The world that they designed for this movie was absolutely stunning and if you're a graphics whore like I am, this will definitely fill your aesthetic appetite. The storyline was corny and predictable, but let's be honest, we didn't go see this movie for the plot. And I certainly wasn't in it for the alien love-making fest...lol? 3D films and television seem to be the up and coming new fad, and in my opinion, that trend is welcome.

Welcome to Andy Andy Blog
Welcome to the exciting life that is Andy Lin. My friends Matt and Pamela are starting up their own blog and already made a shoutout to me. I decided I'd give it a shot if they were...apparently it's the hip thing to do if you work at General Mills like Pamela. I definitely don't object to anyone having their own blog, and in fact I think it's a good way for you to keep your friends up to speed with what's going on with in your life or maybe just what's on your mind.
So what's been on my mind lately has been the whole Gilbert Arenas debacle. For those of you who don't follow the NBA, he's been suspended for the rest of the '09-'10 season. And for those of you who didn't know, I happen to be one of the biggest Arenas fans out there. I came to the UA just after he graduated, but he was still on the courts in the UA's rec center the same time I was during the summer of 2001. Anyway, when Gilbert started taking the league by storm as a member of the Wizards, that's when I really became a big fan (not to mention I had him on all of my fantasy teams). The knee-inury era was a huge disappointment for me...I had watched almost every game he played in on my NBA League Pass and now I couldn't enjoy that while he was on the shelf. Come 2009, he's finally healthy again, and although the Wizards weren't winning many games, I was just happy to see him back in the league. I asked for an Arenas jersey for Christmas and actually ended up getting two. But then the whole gun fiasco went down and ultimately Arenas had played in what could arguably be his final game as a Wizard. Talk about poor timing on those Arenas jerseys huh? As for Gilbert, I agree, he was being an idiot the way he was handling the situation and poking fun of it, but knowing his goofball personality, it was not surprising. The joke itself - playing with guns in the locker room - was just poor judgement, but Gilbert probably isn't the sharpest tool in the shed to begin with anyway. And when you live a lavish lifestyle that any celebrity does, I guess you'd rather play with real guns than water pistols. I sometimes wonder that if the Wizards had been winning games and Gilbert had been playing better than he was, none of this would've happened. Why? Well, in the beginning of the season, he was awfully quiet and had shed his nicknames of Agent Zero and Hibachi, almost as if he matured and that his mission was more about playing basketball rather than displaying his typical antics in an effort to draw more attention. When the Wizards weren't playing well, they told Gilbert to just be himself, and that's what he did. I think following Stern's indefinite suspension, Arenas has handled things quite responsibly and I'm glad. It shows that he's not a complete moron after all and I look forward to seeing him return to the NBA in the future and being a fan once again.
